Knowing The Issues
I listened to both Mayor Sam Teresi and Republican-Endorsed Candidate (Democrat) Shirley Sanfilippo on WJTN's The Hall Closet this week. Even if you're aligned with a certain political party, I believe that you should get to know where the candidates stand on the issues. The big issue locally is the BPU Power Plant's proposed Clean-Coal Project (The other side here).

Did you hear that the Hall Closet has now been cancelled? WJTN management is simply calling it a "corporate decision."
Yes. I'm aware that Ray is off the air and am aware of the back story to it. I understand why Corporate (and I mean that with a big "C") did it, but I was really hoping they would replace him with another locally-produced show. Oh well. That's how commercial radio is going all around the country. Your best bet? Support stations like WRFA with financial donations. I keep hoping we can find someone who can donate their time to do a local call-in talk show there.
What exactly is the back story you heard about all this?? I heard that it has to do with a caller who was looking to get revenge, or something like that...??
I'm afraid you'll have to find someone else to give you the story on what happened there. I will say you're on the wrong track with the caller/revenge line.
Having talked with some people close to Ray Hall, I found out that a former caller to his show had threatened to file an FCC complaint against WJTN for Ray using profane language on the air.
This caller, who went by the alias "Michael," was kicked off the air for making defamatory remarks about Sheriff Joe Gerace and Cristie Herbst, and the only way he'd be allowed back on the air was if he apologized on air to those two people. He was really mad about that and started harassing the station with several hateful letters in the months that followed. On one show last May, Ray said two words you cannot say on radio; those words he quoted from a legal document. That led "Michael" to begin threatening filing a complaint with the FCC. But what ultimately led the ownership in Cleveland to pull the plug on the Hall Closet was one particular threat "Michael" made--that if he wasn't allowed back on the air unconditionally, he'd file a formal complaint with the FCC.
So that's the real story why the Hall Closet is no longer on the air. It's because Ray cursed on the air, and the station was staring a potential fine in the face courtesy of a nutjob caller.
