Smart Car

Jenny's husband's desire for a Smart car piqued my interest again in this delightful, little car.

It was a few years ago that I first heard about Smart Cars. In fact, now that I mull over this I think Jenny was the one that had posted a picture of a smart car resting on Wedgewood China tea cups that she took while in Toronto. Anyway, these cars are only recently available in the United States. I'm a bit disappointed that the 4-passenger model is being discontinued. At the same time, the ForTwo model is still tantalizing especially since we're getting closer to the point where we will need to replace my Tercel. It would be nice to have a fuel-efficient little car to scoot around town in. Shhh. Don't tell the Tercel I said that.

I have a crush on the Honda Fit. I think that's going to be my next one.

How safe is this thing in collisions? Seems absurdly small.

The small thing was a concern too. I found this was a good article in terms of the good and bad. I don't see the smart car as being something I'd want to drive on I-86 or I-90. It only goes up to 90mph anyway.

Having worked in the past as a paramedic for 22 years, I can honestly say that the trade off of gas mileage for safety is NOT worth it. Even if you're not on I-90, I-86, or any other highway, you're still more likely to become spam in a can with this thing. I'd rather have a Prius. At least there is something between you and the other vehicle.

BTW, I have taken the plunge. I used to post here as "gasaholic," now I am at: http://mrnighttime.blogspot.com/

Oh brave new world that has such things in it........
