Now Let's Make It Completely Legal

I am incredibly happy about the news that Governor Paterson has told agencies they must start recognizing gay marriages (video here).

The next logical step is to make gay marriages legal in New York State.

I'm smiling. I can't help it.

That is totally awesome! Couple that news with the California Supreme Court's recent ruling that says that people have a fundamental right to marry the person of their choice regardless of their gender makes May a very good month for the GLBT community.

The timing couldn't be better for these decisions...we're in the last year of Bush's lame duck term and the conservative base is not quite as strong as a couple years ago. I highly doubt that any of the threats to amend the constitution to define marriage as being between a man and a woman will have nearly as much steam as last time.

Yipee! I'm all about sneaking in a liberal agenda while the other side is busy trying to figure out what the hell went wrong over the last 8 years.

Of course, I know that we are going to swing too far to the left and the cycle will start over again after the next 2 terms. Enjoy the next 8 years while you still can.

Wow...I think I lost about 20 IQ points reading through the comments on the D&C article. Thing is...the only arguments I see trotted out time and time again AGAINST marriage is "People will want to marry sheep" or "Hardworking middle class people pay taxes and can't get helthcare" or "The man/woman marriage definition is thousands of years old"... And all are debunked.

I have yet to see one solid, reasonable, well-thought-out response as to why I can't get married in NYS.
